Capability

Since arriving in Australia in 2016 to explore Public Private Partnership opportunities, GS E&C Australia has established a thriving Melbourne corporate office.

We’ve secured our first mega infrastructure project as part of the Spark consortium delivering the $11.2 billion North East Link Tunnels package – Victoria’s largest ever road and tunnel project.

We’ve been named preferred proponent as part of the Regionerate Rail consortium to deliver part of Australia’s largest-ever rail project, the 1700km Inland Rail project.

We are continuing to develop opportunities in the transport infrastructure sector, while we move into other sectors – renewable energy, transmission lines and housing.

Research & Development

GS E&C’s focus on transforming the future through technology has been brought to life through its Research Institute in South Korea, established in 2006.

Fitted out with a large hall, conference room, restaurant, and accommodation, the Research Institute contains bespoke laboratories for:

  • Environment – water and soil treatment, materials and chemicals analysis, microorganisms and emission testing
  • Clean Room – optimised technologies for particle behaviour, airflow control, pollutant source analysis and vibration control
  • Housing – resembling an actual apartment housing unit, the lab studies housing environmental performance enhancing technologies – energy saving, noise reduction, air quality improvement
  • Materials – high performance concrete mixes, durability improvement, development of new environmentally friendly materials, structures methodologies.

In a market where construction and engineering firms have the lowest rates of investment in research and development, GS E&C has committed significant capital in research and development since its inception – investing more than AU$31 million in 2022 alone.

Safety Innovation

GS E&C’s care and commitment for the people at the centre of everything we do – our workforce – led to establishment of the flagship Safety Innovation School at Yongin near Seoul, South Korea in 2006.

The world’s leading innovation in safety, more than 21,500 people have been trained at the hands-on centre, designed to develop our people into safety leaders.

A true hands-on experience, the centre uses augmented and virtual reality, together with real life practice to give people experience in what can go wrong in construction, and how best to look after themselves and each other.

GS E&C has delivered a Safety Innovation School in Singapore, and in 2023, brought its innovations to the Victorian Tunnelling Centre at Holmesglen, Melbourne, where it forms part of the full learning experience.
