The 235.8km double-circuit transmission line connects PP12 and PP13 power plants in Saudi Arabia to the Irqaa substation in Riyadh, enhancing the region’s energy infrastructure and ensuring reliable power distribution to critical areas.
The project encompassed comprehensive design, engineering, procurement and construction, including 638 lattice towers, almost 6,000km of conductors and 123km of permanent access roads. Significant challenges included extreme desert climates, complex topography with steep elevation differences (up to 250m), and logistical constraints such as labor shortages. GS E&C tackled these with innovative solutions, including hiring and training 500 skilled workers from across the globe, adjusting work schedules for harsh weather, and using advanced engineering techniques to manage topographic challenges during stringing.Saudi Irrqaa 380kV Overhead Transmission Line This landmark project underscores GS E&C’s expertise in large-scale, technically demanding infrastructure.
