The Prestea to Kumasi Power Enhancement Project in Ghana involved construction of a 185km 330kV transmission line and the development of a new 330kC substation in Kumasi, significantly enhancing the country’s power network. The project was critical for improving energy distribution and reliability between the two areas, contributing to Ghana’s growing energy demand.
The scope included erecting 490 steel lattice towers, installing twin-bundle TERN conductors, and clearing a 40m-wide right-of-way with stringent environmental and safety compliance measures. Key challenges included navigating diverse terrains, delays due to land compensation, and Right of Way issues. These were mitigated through robust stakeholder engagement, meticulous route planning, and innovations such as altitude adjustments for tower foundations and optimised logistics for tower materials. The project’s success relied on thorough pre-construction planning, efficient supply chain management, and advanced testing for quality assurance.
